Preparing for registration and beyond
Sitting the National Psychology Exam can be a daunting and challenging experience.
For the last three years I have worked with more than 300 supervisees, through group and individual supervision, to help them pass the NPE.
I have learnt from the common mistakes and misunderstandings that lead to supervisees being unable to pass the exam the first (or second or third or fourth) time around. By focusing on question strategy and ethics, I have been able to help many supervisees improve their knowledge and achieve their goals.
Being a provisional psychologist can be a stressful, time consuming, and expensive experience. For this reason I am making my content available as an online course that can be complete in 10 hours. Preparation and Strategy

The most important section in my opinion. This section will help you to understand the purpose of the exam, how to prepare, and most importantly my 3 Question Method. This method will show you how to identify the “best answer” available. Countless supervisees have told me they have used this method with every single NPE question, and they viewed it as the most useful part of preparing for the NPE.
Ethics

The NPE is an ethics test, every single question is asking you to demonstrate best ethical decision making. This section shows you how AHPRA like to hide their ethics questions (tricking many psychs), and explores some of the lesser known (but incredibly important) parts of the APS code of ethics.
Assessment

This is the section most supervisees say they find challenging. I cover the WISC, WAIS, PAI, SDQ, DASS, and K10 as these are the most heavily examined measures. Look forward to a crash course in assessment with lots of examples.
Interventions

The NPE curriculum covers a wide variety of theoretical orientations. This section of the course will cover all of them, and show you how your knowledge may be tested in the exam. There is also some content regarding diagnosis and the DSM-5 (with hopefully more to come).
Communication

In the last 12 months, this section seems to have changed a lot. It is not clear why, but in the last year I have seen a high number of provisional psychologists who failed the NPE in part due to low performance in this section. It is easy to forget communication as it only represents 10% of questions, but it is now a very difficult 10%. In this section we will focus on client diversity, first nations clients, LGBTQIA+ clients, and elder abuse.
